IRDO

Integrated Rural Development Organization (IRDO)

An organization for human rights & development.

OUR IMPACT

All human beings on earth have the right to live and to live in a beautiful environment. Most of the people in this country live below the poverty line. And the main task of IRDO is to stand by the side of small communities and make them financially and mentally self-sufficient from the scourge of poverty. Our Impact is as follows:

  • Poverty Alleviation.
  • Preservation of human rights.
  • Women Empowerment.
  • Establishment justice and wealth risks.
  • Social development by awareness buildup.
  • Eradication of illiteracy.

Poverty Alleviation

The main objectives of IRDO is poverty alleviation, poor and suffering people as well as exercising self-control through utilization of own resources. Identifying native assets, local leadership and ensuring effective utilization of these for welfare and development. Coordinating the poor and deprived ones through the formation of co-operatives and thus facilitate socio-economic progress. Giving priority to women in loan schemes by involving them directly in the production process and thus creating the scope of additional income in the family, which gradually leads to self-sufficiency

Preservation of Human Rights

Human rights being essential for all-around development and of the personality of individuals in society, be necessarily protected and be made available to all the individuals. In a democratic country, it is a prerequisite that all the citizens get economic and social justice. There are many organizations in Bangladesh that work with human rights issues, among them IRDO has been working as one of the prominent leaders. Its mission is to empower people and communities in situations of poverty, environmental justice, illiteracy, disease and social justice.

Women Empowerment

Forced marriage in children is still practiced in many parts of Bangladesh today. This leads to early pregnancies which not only risk the life and health of girls but also the unpreparedness of raising a family at a young age. IRDO wants women and girls to be able to make decisions for themselves and to realize they are not objects to be told who and when to marry. The organization works to end this form of discrimination and educate people on family planning methods. As we know that women are now more active in the workforce as compared to a decade ago, but still believe that the role of women in society still has a long way to go. Several issues they fight for are the unequal pay for men and women in the workforce, discrimination in and out of the workplace, and the body image society states women should have, among others. Since its inception, IRDO is working to eradicate this discrimination and promoting the importance of woman empowerment.

Establishment justice and wealth risks

In terms of the protection of human rights, IRDO attempts to preserve the dignity of individual citizens and the ownership of property and wealth when these are threatened by the power of the state in every aspect of the society including fighting individual violations of human rights either directly or by supporting particular ‘test cases’ through relevant courts, offering direct assistance to those whose rights have been violated, lobbying for changes to national, regional law, helping to develop the substance of those laws as well as promoting knowledge of, and respect for, human rights among the population

Social development by awareness buildup

IRDO is involved both in the delivery of services and in the scaling up of the interventions through social awareness campaigns. For example, the initial spread of the use of oral saline for diarrhoea treatment and sanitation for underprivileged girls and women. Also, the rapid expansion of microcredit programs has been a contributing factor by promoting for girls, people with no or little income. The progress in social development indicators have been achieved to a large extent by bypassing the widespread the problem of poor governance afflicting service delivery across the social sectors in Bangladesh. IRDO has been working hard to make it possible by keeping the public campaigns, such as for immunization or ‘social’ marketing of contraceptives, outside the established structure of service delivery. The rural healthcare system has pushed ahead through the utilization of services of assigned doctors and trained health workers. IRDO largely targets households or individuals, mostly poor women and tribal people to bring them under a common umbrella of social development by building awareness.

Eradication of illiteracy

With a goal of eradicating illiteracy from rural and underprivileged people of Bangladesh, we at IRDO initiative, provide basic and primary education in remote areas. Through the substantial efforts to improve primary education in Bangladesh, which has already led to increased enrolment levels in schools. However, enrolment levels of marginalized groups remain much lower. Moreover, the number of children dropping out is alarming, and again quite high for children from marginalized communities. We aim to not only reduce the dropout rates drastically but also create a more conducive and effective learning environment, motivate the teachers, engage the students better in the learning process and create lifelong learners
