Environment / Social Forestry Program

Women and children are the first sufferer of environment pollution and effects. IRDO has been working on environment activities. IRDO is a member of ELCI, Nirobi Kenya since 2003. The entire message given by ELCI has disseminated to the concern stakeholders. IRDO observed “World Environment Day” every year with each beneficiary in collaboration with Government in order to bring about ecological and socio economic improvement in the rural area and at the same to make Greening the country in order to ensure healthy environment atmosphere. IRDO also motivated its group’s members on environment friendly living conditions in their respective area.

HIV / AIDS Program

IRDO has been working in motivation and education of the community people about AIDS/ HIV since 2000 in order to change the behavior of the community people to prevent AIDS/ HIV. IRDO has an experienced and skilled team of staff members who got the training on HIV/AIDS Prevention Program. This team of members is in changing the behavior of the community people to prevent AIDS/ HIV through motivation, awareness training and campaign. So it is needless to say that IRDO is experienced and capable enough to implement the proposed project. IRDO has also the financial reliability and managerial capacity to provide the services. IRDO organizes different discussion meeting on health and HIV/AIDS issues with them in several times. The Fields Workers and TBAs of Health program carry out the activities at village and satellite clinical level with the active cooperation of Auxiliary Health Workers and Tradition Healers. Mentionable here that IRDO is the active member of National, STD, HIV/AIDS Network, VHSS and HASAB.

Arsenic Mitigation Program

IRDO started this project in Sadr upazila of Narsingdi district by the financial assistance of NGO Forum. The main objectives of this project are to motivate and research the target group beneficiaries as well as community people for awareness rising about the miserable impact of Arsenic Infected tube-well water, making arsenic affected tube-well identifying the Arsenic affected patients and motivate and assist them to take necessary measure of it. A total of 1500 numbers of beneficiaries especially women and children of this project are oriented about arsenic.

Aqua Culture Program

Since 2002, IRDO has been implementing for the development of poor women and male through the Small Scale Water Resources Development Sector Project-II (SSWRDSP) with the financial and technical assistance of LGED. It has been implementing under the participatory approaches in the 3 districts namely: Narayanganj, Narsingdi, and Gazipur Sadar. The overall objective of the project is to reduce poverty through the increase of sustainable agriculture and fishery development to the female & male beneficiaries. The specific objective of the project is to develop sustainable stakeholders driven small scale water resources management systems with special attention to the poorer section of the population of those 3 districts

Housing Program (Grihayan Program for Rural Poor & Homeless)

IRDO has started housing project in 2003 for the flood affected and shelter less people by the financial support of Grihayan Tahbil of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. With a view to rehabilitate the flood affected and shelter less people specially women and children. IRDO constructed 433 house, each one room 12 f x 20 f= 240 sqf. in Narsingdi district by an amount of BDTK 1.01 Crore. By this time, repairing of some houses have been made from the office and at the same time strong frequent follow-up monitoring has been also made in order to proper implementation of the project.

Solar Power Program

Solar Home System (SHS) is very useful and effective there where there is no electricity. IRDO has disseminated Solar Home System in its working area for minimizing the power scarcity of the remote rural area. This activity also increases the working scope and income of poor people. IRDO has been implementing Solar Home System program by the technical and financial support of World Bank through Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) since 2007. This program has really created a favorable demand among the beneficiaries specially for women and children. People accepted solar home system for their domestic purpose, business, shrimp culture, handicrafts, grocery shops, tailoring at night, business and educational purpose instead of kerosene. The beneficiaries adapted SHS as this is the first to the community. This is also friendly environmental for community. At present, this program covers 2 districts

Homestead Gardening & Spice Cultivation Program

IRDO in a partnership of Palli Dustha Mohila Samity (PDMS) has been implementing the agriculture extension project entitled “New and Modern Technology Transfer and year Round Homestead Vegetable Gardening” at Baria and Mirzapur UP in Gazipur sadar upazilla. Partnership Initiative Fund (DPIF) in 2006 assisted by Ministry of Agriculture. The objective of the project is to improve health status ensuring sustainable vegetable gardening development activities/production. 250 trained women beneficiaries are involved in implementing this project.

Disable Rehabilitation Program (DRP)

IRDO has started the disabled rehabilitation program since 2004 up to date; near about 120 started the disabled people are enlisted for rehabilitation. IRDO has been implementing this project by the financial assistance of National Disabled Development Forum and Abilis Foundation. Technical assistant for this project is being provided by CDD. During the reporting period, IRDO organized tailoring training for 5 disabled women and grocery and cow rearing training for 5 poliomyelitis parents, accordingly IGA supports are provided. IRDO has also provided economic support for 5 disabled people for IRDO referral for 20 disabled people, PRT has been provided to 10 disabled people. Assistive devices have been given to 5 disabled people both male and female by the financial assistance of National Disable Development Foundation. PRT is given regular support services for the people with disabilities. It has been providing by using an experienced and skilled team of staff. Over all, IRDO is trying to assist the disabled people in credit education, health and nutrition activities. During the reporting period IRDO arranged to get admission for 2 children with hearing speech into Dump school in the Kishoreganj district
